Henrietta Mears
Henrietta Mears was born in North Dakota in 1890. What I admire about her is that she had a large vision and believed God for great things. In a time when women may have been powerless she was powerful to do God's work. In 1928 she became the director of Christian education at First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, CA. She couldn't find good curriculum to use so she developed curriculum. Under her leadership the number of people reached by the church grew from 400 to 4,000. She had a vision to make a place out in nature where people could feel close to God and be challenged by his word. She looked into a privately owned resort in San Bernardino mountains but the price tage was high. She insisted that they should "dream big whenever God is involved". In 1938 Forest Home, valued at $350,000 was purchased for $30,000 for the retreat she wanted to start. Henrietta Mears life challenges me to enlarge my vision and see God work.
